Taipei Trip - May 2009 - 6:29 pm
Personal , Photo  -  poster

I spent 2 nights in Taipei on my trip back to Malaysia. The trip over is quite short and so I haven't been to much of the places.

I stayed in XiMenDing (西门町). My short trip consist of visit to the Shilin Night Market (士林夜市), Taipei 101 Tower, the surrondings of Taipei 101 (东区) and 光華商場.

Loved the food over and it's a place worth to go again. Below are some of the photos:

A quick update to the shouting system using captcha to combat shout spam. Recently there's been a few thousands of spams posted via shouting system. During peak there are around 40+ IPs spamming, looks like they're coming from the same source, just rotating the IPs and abusing the shout system.

After this update, shouter now needs to enter the 3 character code before a shout can be posted.

Eat shit n die you spammers !

Easter Trip - Byron Bay - 10:52 pm
where are the bunnies ?
Event , Personal , Photo  -  poster

Went to Byron Bay with friends to catch the sunrise and some beach activity during Easter long holiday. The view in the lookout point is very nice, too bad we didn't spot any whales or dophins.

The city centre of Byron Bay is not too small, but we're having trouble to find a McDonald/KFC/Hungry Jacks... We have 3 GPS, all TomTom (different series) and saying nearest McDonald is 26km glare

Overnight in Gold Coast later that night, a lot of driving and but it's fun. Below are the photos taken from my mobile:

Nokia 5800 - 9:45 pm

Nokia 5800 Express Music
Recently I've changed my old mobile SE K800 to Nokia 5800. Thanks Dewi for the screen protector ! :)

I was actually waiting for the Nokia E71. Didn't even know this phone was out until I found out on the website. Changed my mind on the spot and sign up the phone the next day. Haven't regretted after using for a few weeks, and more importantly, the phone hasn't crashed at all (unbelievable for a modern Nokia phone)!

This is my first touch screen mobile, getting more used to it as the phone has only 3 main buttons. Below are some of my thoughts:

Pros
  • Nokia Comes With Music - What really impressed me wasn't actually the phone itself, but rather the "Nokia Comes With Music" - unlimited music downloads for 1 year. Yeah I know the DRM thing is stupid but unlimited downloads ? I can live with that.
note: there are some websites that claim it's not "unlimited", only 120 songs per year. But looking at my Nokia Music, I've already downloaded 226 tracks...
  • Free 8GB memory card - Isn't this sweet? Would be even better if's internal though..
  • Touch screen sensitivity is ok
  • Message typing is quite good among the touch screen mobiles as you can choose several input choice from old school to qwerty style keyboard
  • Phone is lightweight - But beware, it's a little flimsy, one drop... R.I.P.
  • Standard data connectivity - WLAN/Bluetooth/USB etc
  • Internet browsing is quite good (but not the browser)

Cons
  • Most of the times, you'll need to nagivate through a lot of screens to achieve one thing. I'm not a fan of Nokia navigation interface and this haven't changed for yaers.
  • The casing provided is really hard to use
  • This phone is supposed to be a portable entertainment device, but the side volume adjust button is not usable when the phone is being locked. You'll need to unlock the phone to adjust the volume.
  • Blinking/phantom windows appearing and disappearing between applications.
  • File manager - how could you call it a "manager" if it doesn't even support one of the most needed multiple item selection function ? ie, if you need to move 10 files from one folder to another, good luck on that because you'll need to move one by one, for 10 times.
  • No one-button-access to display current running applications.
  • Making a call and contact browsing is really not user-friendly.
  • The call button (green) displays outgoing/incoming/missed calls separately, would be nice to have another section that combines all 3 categories. It's handy when you want to make a call quick without too much finger-touching.
  • Gallery/Media browsing - really really crappy and wouldn't want to comment more.
  • Music player - If you un-plug the earphone while playing a song, it automatically continue to play out on speakers.
  • Camera - Don't expect too much, don't even expect it to be average. My SE K800 camera phone is almost 3 years old now, but the camera quality is far more superior than this Nokia 5800.
  • The headset - The cable is a bit too long ? That could get a person hang dead if it's not used properly...

iPhone Killer? maybe not...
Overall, the phone is quite good (along with the bundles). Forget about this if you're looking for a average camera phone.

The Nokia 5800 has other name - the "iPhone Killer" but I guess iPhone still stands out easily. However, given this is just the first generation of touch screen phones from Nokia, the potential to be able to compete more with iPhone in future is undeniable.

After more than a year's maintenance - I'm back - 11:56 am
Personal , Site Updates  -  poster

More than a year ago, due to worm attack on the server and corrupted all my files (several times actually), I decided to pull my blog down and go into maintenance mode.

Now, it's the time to open it back to the public ~

こんにちは皆 !

Also just realize a lot of poeple are born in December too
Personal , Security , Site Issue  -  poster

Lately I'm inactive on this site and a couple of things happened, eg site under attacked (believed it's a worm) around September, then server primary HDD crashed and they're unable to rebuild to the latest data because they didn't set up the RAID properly...I'm speechless when they "announce" this. What else could I say when you expect it's the basic routine but they're not even doing it right... then another attacked which injected codes in my scripts, thanks to that, it delivers *free porn* to visitors whenever they request a page on my site. This is so not creative...

If it's not a friend of mine bring this up to me, I would just leave this ongoing for a while since I'm going t heh A couple of IP's and hostname are banned for the time being.

Oh well, Christmas is around the corner. I am planning to get myself a new PC for Christmas ^^ Would go for 2 x 22" LCD monitor setup since I've always wanted to play with multi monitors setup. Was thinking of Apple's Mac but then it's too pricy and the specs are so horrible. I can just get a PC that has equivalent performance as Mac, get a white-piano-feel case or paint it white, and it will still cost me less... .... ....

*it's getting late and I'm starting to type rubbish...*

Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers 2007 - 11:33 am
Event , Personal , Photo  -  poster

Drove down to Toowoomba yesterday with a bunch of friends to join the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers 2007. Not seeing that much of flowers in Queens Park and the parade, that was really quite disappointing but maybe we didn't go to the right place. We decided to head off for food in the middle of parada because it's quite boring. After that we visited Japanese Garden and Picnic Point.

Anyway, below are some of the shots I took with my phone:

ps: I think the Roma Street Parkland in Brisbane City got more flowers to see... just my opinion...

-Out of topic -
I've now re-opened my photo gallery (it has been closed down since 2005.11.29). Originally, the photo gallery is powered by MG2 and heavily tweaked to suit my site. Later I found out that MG2 has some serious security issues and the worst part is the author is no longer active in the project. So that makes the old photo gallery goes bye-bye.

Now the new photo gallery is powered by Gallery. I'm pretty impressed by the features it provides. Just that it's quite confusing for the first timer when it comes to their rich and complex features with poor explaination /hint /help /documentation /faq. Honestly their wiki-based online help/documentation isn't really helpful when I need more information on tweaking and customizing. But I can't ask for more since it's FREE... doh !
